<\/p>

The Schrattenfluh is a small mountain range that is quite surprising. Its north-western side is a steep cliff that drops down into the Emme valley, while its south-eastern side is a huge, slightly sloping plateau with a well-known karrenfeld. So, if you climb the side facing S\u00f6renberg, you can easily reach the crest. The only difficulties are the detours you must make to avoid crevasses and chasms. The crest is relatively flat, and the only thing that really stands out is the Schibeg\u00fctsch. This peak, with its distinctive cliff, is the first elevation of the Schrattenfluh, directly opposite the Hohgant.<\/p>

According to a legend, the karrenfeld plateau was formed because of the sacrilege and dishonesty of a farmer. As is often the case in mountain legends, the cause is a dishonest man who has a beautiful daughter. He promised her hand to the only brave man who could climb the Schibeg\u00fctsch. Many suitors have met their end in this way.<\/p>

The hike we did here starts at the end of the road from Waglisei. There are two car parks, but I can imagine that in the summer, when it is busy, they must fill up quite quickly. From the car park, the marked trail follows a dirt road that is sometimes quite rocky and unpleasant. This is the path that leads to the Chlush\u00fctte hut, so you must follow it for a while.<\/p>

From the hut, the real climbing begins, and you have the choice of either following the alpine trail (marked in white-blue-white) or the mountain trail. Both are steep and sometimes you must overcome a few rocky sections. In our case, we chose the mountain trail. This leads to a small mountain pass to the north of the summit. From here, it becomes a bit more exposed, as you follow the crest. Unfortunately, in our case, clouds had started to form over the north-western side of the range, blocking the view of Schangnau and Marbachegg.<\/p>

For the descent, we decided to take a small loop that passed close to the foot of the T\u00fcrtsteh\u00e4uptli, which looks like a block sitting on the ridge. The rest of the descent followed the ascent route, as large cumulus clouds were starting to form, which promised a thunderstorm. Luckily, the storm broke while we were back in S\u00f6renberg.<\/p>
