<\/p>

L\u2019histoire de la Gemmi est fascinante, car il y a, malgr\u00e9 les diff\u00e9rentes \u00e9tudes qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 faites, un certain nombre d\u2019inconnues.<\/p>

Le franchissement de la Gemmi se trouve sur la ligne la plus directe menant de Berne \u00e0 la Plaine du P\u00f4. Certes, il existe un passage par le Col du Grimsel et le Col du Griess, mais il ne s\u2019agit pas de l\u2019itin\u00e9raire le plus direct depuis Berne. Depuis cette ville, le plus direct est de franchir la cha\u00eene des Alpes Bernoises par la Gemmi, ou par le L\u00f6tschenpass, et de continuer en traversant le Col du Simplon. Parmi les cols \u00e9voqu\u00e9s, le L\u00f6tschenpass est celui qui a rendu le plus de vestiges arch\u00e9ologiques, et on peut partir du principe que, malgr\u00e9 son altitude bien plus \u00e9lev\u00e9e que la Gemmi (plus de 350m), il devait avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 privil\u00e9gi\u00e9. Cependant, le Col de la Gemmi offre une variante int\u00e9ressante, car bien plus basse en altitude et ais\u00e9e d\u2019acc\u00e8s. Mais, du c\u00f4t\u00e9 de Lo\u00e8che-les-Bains, une haute paroi rocheuse en interdit l\u2019acc\u00e8s.<\/p>

Cette paroi a probablement donn\u00e9 du fil \u00e0 retordre aux anciennes g\u00e9n\u00e9rations et il est pratiquement certain que le passage de la Alte Gemmi, beaucoup plus haut et d\u00e9tourn\u00e9, avait \u00e9t\u00e9 privil\u00e9gi\u00e9 durant un certain temps. Pour ceux qui venaient de Berne, il \u00e9tait certainement alors plus facile de franchir le L\u00f6tschenpass, car plus bas en altitude.<\/p>

Lorsque la grande paroi a pu \u00eatre franchie par un sentier, les habitudes ont commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 changer. Mais, quand est-ce que ce changement a eu lieu\u00a0? Nous n\u2019avons que tr\u00e8s peu d\u2019informations \u00e0 ce sujet. Ce qui est certain, c\u2019est que des actes du 16\u00e8me<\/sup> si\u00e8cle mentionnent une reconstruction du chemin montant \u00e0 la Gemmi. Il est \u00e9galement fait mention d\u2019un pont suspendu par des cha\u00eenes franchissant une gorge. Cela laisse supposer qu\u2019un chemin existait d\u00e9j\u00e0 avant le 16\u00e8me<\/sup> si\u00e8cle, mais depuis combien de temps\u00a0? Il n\u2019existe pas d\u2019information plus d\u00e9taill\u00e9e pour l\u2019instant.<\/p>

Le chemin actuel, que l\u2019on suit en montant \u00e0 la Gemmi depuis Lo\u00e8che-les-Bains, date du 18\u00e8me<\/sup> si\u00e8cle. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 am\u00e9nag\u00e9 de sorte \u00e0 pouvoir faire monter le b\u00e9tail depuis le Valais aux alpages de la Gemmi.<\/p>

Quand on regarde la grande paroi depuis Lo\u00e8che-les-Bains, on a de la peine \u00e0 croire qu\u2019un chemin puisse la franchir. On n\u2019arrive pas non plus \u00e0 suivre des yeux le cheminement possible. Ce n\u2019est que lorsque l\u2019on commence \u00e0 monter que l\u2019on comprend que l\u2019on pourra sans trop de probl\u00e8mes gagner la Gemmi. En prenant le t\u00e9l\u00e9ph\u00e9rique pour redescendre, on aura alors une vue tr\u00e8s d\u00e9taill\u00e9e sur ce cheminement spectaculaire.<\/p>
