Der Br\u00fcnigpass ist eine wichtige Passage zwischen dem Kanton Obwald und Bern. Er verbindet die Region Luzern auf direktem Wege mit Ortschaften wie Thun. Der Br\u00fcnigpass ist auch von historischer Bedeutung, da neuere Ausgrabungen 11000 Jahre alte Objekte in Form von geschlagenen Feuersteinen ans Tageslicht gebracht haben. Es handelt sich um die \u00e4ltesten Fundst\u00fccke im Kanton Obwalden.<\/p>

Der Br\u00fcnigpass liegt auch auf der direktesten Strecke zwischen Luzern und Domodossola. Der direkteste Weg f\u00fchrt \u00fcber den Br\u00fcnigpass hinauf ins Haslital, \u00fcber den Grimselpass und schliesslich von Niedergesteln \u00fcber den Griesspass. Man kann sich vorstellen, dass diese Route schon in der R\u00f6merzeit begangen werden musste, da die Durchschnittstemperaturen zu dieser Zeit h\u00f6her waren. In der kleinen Eiszeit war diese Route jedoch problematischer: Der Grimsel steht auf 2164 Meter und der Griess 2452 Meter. Dennoch wurde festgestellt, dass es sich hierbei insbesondere f\u00fcr die Ausfuhr von Sbrinz um eine wichtige Handelsroute handelte.<\/p>

Der Ausgangspunkt f\u00fcr die Wanderung ist der Bahnhof Lungern. Der Ort ist absolut idyllisch und deshalb leidet er auch an \u00dcbertourismus. Man sieht tats\u00e4chlich Scharen von Touristen kommen, die nicht immer respektvoll sind.<\/p>

Vom Bahnhof Lungern geht es zun\u00e4chst bergab, um besser hinaufzukommen. Auf der Kantonsstrasse angekommen, geht es unter der Kirche, hinter einem Schreinerbetrieb und dem Elektrowerk vorbei, um zun\u00e4chst einem ziemlich steilen Waldweg zu folgen. Dann kommt man auf eine kleine Weide mit einem Felskopf. Diese muss man mit einer in den Felsen gehauenen Treppe erklimmen, die den R\u00f6mern zugeschrieben wurde. Dann gelangt man zu einer zweiten Weide, die unterhalb der Br\u00fcnigstrasse liegt. Die Atmosph\u00e4re wird lauter.<\/p>

Etwas weiter oben \u00fcberquert man die Strasse, die zum Pass f\u00fchrt. Die \u00dcberquerung ist nicht immer einfach, da der Verkehr ziemlich dicht sein kann. Auf der anderen Strassenseite folgt die Route einem Weg, auf dem fr\u00fcher Steinschlagsicherungen angebracht wurden. Der Weg ist daher eher absch\u00fcssig und beschwerlich. Angenehmer wird es hingegen etwas h\u00f6her, wenn man am Fuss der Felswand entlanggeht.<\/p>

Man erreicht die Letzi, eine Enge, an der w\u00e4hrend der Kriege zwischen Obwalder-Katholiken und Berner Protestanten eine Schutzmauer errichtet wurde. Kurz darauf geht es ein wenig bergab, um durch die Weiden des Br\u00fcnigs hinauf zu einem kleinen Sumpf namens Sewli zu gelangen (der kleine See, wie wir ihn \u00fcberquert hatten).<\/p>

Noch ein wenig Kraftanstrengung und schon bald erreicht man den Pass, allerdings musste man kurz der Strasse folgen, was angesichts des Strassenverkehrs kein besonders angenehmes Erlebnis war.<\/p>

F\u00fcr den Abstieg vom Br\u00fcnig in Richtung Meiringen entschieden wir uns f\u00fcr den Abstieg zum Weiler Br\u00fcnigen und wieder oberhalb der W\u00e4nde von Schwendlen. Entlang des Weges lohnt sich ein Aussichtspunk (ein Wegweiser steht am Weg). Kurz vor dem Abstieg in die Talsohle befindet sich die Abzweigung. Unten im Tal kann man dann ein gutes St\u00fcck der Aare folgen, bevor man den Bahnhof Meiringen erreicht.<\/p>
